Made up of seventy-nine neighborhoods each with their own distinctive style and personality, St. Louis exemplifies a cultural melting pot. The 2.8 million residents of metropolitan St. Louis speak at least 110 different languages, yet like in most large American cities and their surrounding suburbs, evangelicals have been unable to plant churches that match their city’s great diversity. Less than 15 percent of metropolitan St. Louis residents are affiliated with an evangelical church; close to 50 percent of residents aren’t affiliated with any religious group, Christian or otherwise. So, how do we reach the unchurched and dechurched in our city? As Timothy Keller once said, “The vigorous, continual planting of new congregations is the single most crucial strategy for the numerical growth of the Body of Christ in any city…. Nothing else—not crusades, outreach programs, para-church ministries, growing mega-churches, congregational consulting, nor church renewal processes—will have the consistent impact of dynamic, extensive church planting.” PlantStLouis exists to do exactly that: to reach St. Louis by the vigorous planting of new churches.
PlantStLouis is a network of ethnically, socially, and strategically diverse church plants throughout the St. Louis metro area in both Illinois and Missouri. We are united together around historically Baptistic principles and the Great Commission directive of going to all peoples and making disciples. Our movement began with the church planting initiative of the Saint Louis Metro Baptist Association, and thus our planters are in agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message. The goal of the network is to see an explosion of “gospel points” throughout the city and metro area. The goal is for planters to be a part of a “band of brothers” where “team” is central and the only star is Jesus. We seek to assist one another in planting evangelistic churches with the never changing gospel in an ever changing culture of both St. Louis and the world.
Plant StLouis Residency – The vision of this residency is to help the local church plant churches in the St. Louis metropolitan area and beyond. We seek to do this two ways. First, it is to assist the church and it’s pastor in the development of the man in their church who feels called to plant. Second, we want to provide an opportunity and environment for that God called man to become better prepared and equipped in his going out to plant. The residency is for men who have a clear sense of call to church planting. Want to know more? Click Here
