Chicago is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States. Surrounded by the five collar counties—collectively referred to as “Chicagoland”—the city boasts hundreds of neighborhoods and communities that are home to a vast array of people who speak an estimated two hundred distinct languages, effectively bringing the international community to our doorstep.
The entire state of Illinois boasts a population of nearly 12.5 million people. Of that total, nearly 9 million live in Chicagoland (not including NW Indiana and SE Wisconsin), an estimated 6.3 million of which do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ. As we reflect on this great challenge, we are reminded of Christ’s words in Luke 10:2: “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” We are convinced that the power of the gospel can and will transform the landscape of Chicagoland . . . and thereby change the world!
PlantChicago seeks to push back darkness and engage the diverse culture found throughout Chicagoland by planting gospel-centered, contextually-relevant, and disciple-multiplying churches. Doing so will take Christ-followers who prayerfully consider what God would have them do as it relates to this God-sized task. We need praying people, partnering churches, and planting leaders. Will you consider joining this Kingdom-building effort?
